2021 One Night in the Wild-Presented by Cindy and Matt White
Saturday, November 13, 2021

Dr. Cindy and Matt White are longtime supporters of JDRF and their mission to turn Type One into Type NONE.

Cindy was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes (T1D) at the age of 20 while in college.  The encumbering diagnosis derailed her dreams of one day becoming an astronaut.  From that moment on Cindy dealt with this disease day-by-day. Like many T1D patients, Cindy’s neuropathy and eye damage rapidly progressed over time. Thanks to organ donors and the amazing team of surgeons, Cindy received a Kidney/Pancreas transplant in October 2014.  Her transplant has literally extended her life and improved her quality of life going forward as she is no longer a diabetic.  Although the diabetes has taken some of her sight, some of her organ function, and some of her muscle tone, she is now thriving once again!

This is not a cure-all though, as there are still many risks that she lives with daily from the transplants.  Matt stood strongly by her side and promised to help in any way he could.  With that vow Matt, Cindy, Matt’s company (Meter Technology Werks), along with Hooked on a Cure (non-profit formed by Matt and Cindy) have supported JDRF for over 7 years.  Within those 7 years, Matt, Cindy, and their companies have donated over $250,000 to JDRF.  The JDRF mission is still so important to them because they know firsthand what this disease can do.

Through Hooked on a Cure, Matt and his team host an annual fishing tournament where 100% of the proceeds are donated directly to JDRF.  Matt continues to sit on the Board of Directors, the Gala Committee, is a Gala and Walk Sponsor and a JDRF T1D Advocate.
